What is Houses?

(Texto en español aquí)

All members of our IUVYC Family belong to one of the four Houses of Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Metal. Each one of these houses is represented by a dragon that embodies the personality and virtues of its respective house. Upon admission, newly arrived students are assigned to one of these four houses based on their affinity to it, their ability to enrich it with their strengths and benefit from the ones of other members. As a general norm, all members of a family will belong to the same house.

Houses provides every member of IUVYC with a sense of belonging within the school community; opportunities to develop social, intellectual, physical and practical skills; a sense of achievement both inside and outside of the classroom; fun and excitement through competition; opportunities for leadership; an awareness of individual and collective responsibility; and a celebration of all the members' talents and successes.

Each house is in competition with each other to achieve the highest number of house points at the end of each term. Students and staff can contribute to their house point totals in a number of ways both in and out of the classroom and in the events and activities taking place throughout the school term.

House points can be awarded for merits (attendance, punctuality, etc.), performance in competitions, academic achievements, among others. At the end of the school term the house with the most points will be declared the winner and will earn the privilege of guarding the Golden Life Tree for a a year's time.
